OFFICE & SCHOOL
- Ask your workplace and each child's school or daycare about their emergency plan.
- Know where exit routes, fire extinguishers, and medical kits are located.
- Keep important phone numbers in your wallet and in your cell phone.
VEHICLES
- Keep vehicles well maintained. Check fluids and tires regularly.
- Store emergency supplies in the car at all times (e.g. first aid kit, jumper cables, flashlight, blankets, food/water, spare tire and tools, gas can).
SURVIVAL STORAGE
- Store enough food, food prep supplies, and water for emergency use.
- Store personal care items, first aid kid, emergency lighting, and a radio.
- Have paper and games to keep children (and yourself!) entertained.
COMMUNICATION
- Have one local and one out-of-state contact that all family members call if separated during an emergency. Memorize these phone numbers.
- Create a family emergency plan and designate meeting places.
- Teach children how to get help from neighbors and call 911.
FINANCIALS & VITAL DOCUMENTS
- Have cash on hand in small bills. Maintain an emergency fund.
- Have extra checks or credit cards and copies of IDs.
- Keep vital family documents in a fire- and water-proof container.
- Share critical information with a trusted friend or family member should something happen to you.
PETS
- Store pet food and supplies with other emergency items.
- Keep pet tags up to date with current contact information.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
- Know the location of the nearest police, fire station, and hospital.
- Become familiar with local agencies, nonprofits, and volunteer organizations should you need help or want to give help.
Fun Fact
It is recommended that you store a two week supply of water for each person in your household. Each person is recommended to have at least 1 gallon of water per day, but 2-5 gallons per day in an emergency situation is ideal.
